The day after Stephen Curry became the first unanimous NBA MVP winner, LeBron James had a few words to say that got the entire sports world buzzing.
“Look at Steph’s numbers. He averaged 30, he led the league in steals, he was 90-50-40 and they won 73. So, I don’t – do you have any debate over that, really, when it comes to that award?” James said. “But when you talk about most valuable, then you can have a different conversation, so, take nothing away from him, he’s definitely deserving of that award, for sure.”
LeBron’s comments were (rightly) perceived as a subtle shot at Curry. So naturally, it wasn’t long before the media asked the current MVP to respond to the controversial comments from a former MVP.
Curry’s response was brief, but he managed to come off as dismissive and bitter at the same time.
“I’ve gotten really good at ignoring people. That is the theme of the last two years. I’m all right,” Curry said.
If there were NBA fans out there who weren’t already hoping for an epic Cavs-Warriors finals rematch, they will be now.
